Snow White is a 1916 silent film based on the fairy tale by The Brothers Grimm . It was the first American adaptation and the second adaptation to film in general before a 1906 production which is lost. The film starred: Marguerte Clark, Dorothy Cummings and Lionel Barham. 

Synopsis 

The picture begins with Santa Claus in a house putting dolls on display. The dolls come to live and the story begins. Snow White is a princess with her father the King long dead. She lives with the vain Queen Brangomar who made a deal with a witch long ago to become Queen. In return the witch asked Snow White's heart. The Queen despises her. Queen Brangomar has a magic mirror who she asks: "Mirror mirror in my hand who is the fairest in the land?". The mirror reveals that Snow White is fairer then her. The witch comes who says that now is the time. 

Queen Brangomar calls forth the Huntsman Berthold and commands her to take her into the woods. The huntman does but let's Snow White go. She goes to live with seven dwarves in the forest. Can she with their aid escape Queen Brangomar who still tries to please the Witch Hex?

Legacy 

The first adaptation of Snow White was well recieved. It inspired Walt Disney to make his 1937 classic . He saw the film when he was a newspaper-boy.
